The vinaceous-breasted amazon (Amazona vinacea) is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is found in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and plantations. It is threatened by habitat loss.
The vinaceous-breasted amazon is a colorful parrot measuring 30 cm (12 in) long. It is mostly green, with a red forehead, bluish nape, blue primaries and a vinous-maroon breast.
It feeds on flowers, fruits, seeds, buds and leaves. He lives in pairs or in small family groups, during the breeding season it can be seen in small herds.
The nesting period is from September to January. The nest is a pit dug in the stumps of tall or dead tall trees, or an opening in the rock walls, that uses the same pit every year. The male stands guarding the nest to chase the invaders. Lay eggs from 2 to 4 eggs and incubation period of 25-26 days. The nesting period is 34 days. Chicks leave the nest after one month, and acquire feathers for adults at the age of 20 months. With the age of three or four years they can mate. In captivity they can live up to 80 years.
